Back in October 2022 and independent review was started by the Minister for the NDIS. The aim was to put individuals with disabilities back at the centre of the NDIS.
After more than 14 months of collaboration and working together with NDIS participants, disability representatives, independent advisers, and providers the Review Panel have presented the final report and have made 26 recommendations.
The full report is available at https://www.ndisreview.gov.au/resources/reports/working-together-deliver-ndis as well as an Easy Read document or At a Glance Document.
The purpose of the recommendations/reforms the panel believe are the best way to ensure sustainability of the NDIS whilst also being able to achieve a fairer system, and one of support for all individuals with disability and not just for those individuals who are on the NDIS. How this will be done is covered in the four sections of the report:-
Part 1 – A unified system of support for people with disability
Part 2 – Markets and support systems that empower people with disability
Part 3 – Stewardship of the unified ecosystem
Part 4 – A five year transition.
Currently the NDIS are still working on the 2023 Federal Budget reforms which will now expand to include the NDIS Review outcomes but only once the governments have considered the recommendations. When and if there are to be any transitions to new arrangements they will be carefully planned and staged over time to ensure participant safety. This will also allow providers and those they employ to transition to any new arrangement in an orderly manner.
At this point in time there are no immediate changes for providers.
