Early Childhood Intervention
NDIS Early Childhood Intervention is a specialised approach under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) that supports children aged 0 to 9 years who have a developmental delay or disability, as well as their families and carers. The aim is to provide early, individualised support that helps children build foundational skills and reach developmental milestones as early as possible—maximising their potential and reducing the need for long-term support.
This intervention focuses on:
- Building functional skills in areas such as communication, movement, social interaction, self-care, and emotional regulation
- Supporting inclusion in everyday settings like home, early childhood education, and the community
- Strengthening families by providing coaching, information, and strategies to help them support their child’s development in daily routines
- Collaborating with professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and early childhood educators, to deliver tailored and coordinated care
NDIS early childhood intervention is not a “one size fits all” service. It is flexible, family-focused, and based on what the child and family need at the time, often delivered through key workers or a team-based model. The goal is to promote participation, independence, and wellbeing—laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning and development.
At Soothing Minds, we support Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) by providing tailored, evidence-based services to children aged 0–9 years who are experiencing developmental delays or disabilities, as well as to their families and support networks. Our approach is grounded in the belief that early support can make a lasting difference in a child’s life.
Here’s how Soothing Minds works within the ECI space:
- Child-Centred, Family-Focused Support:
We collaborate closely with families and carers to understand each child’s unique strengths, needs, and goals. Interventions are embedded in daily routines and delivered in natural settings like the home, preschool, or via telehealth when appropriate. - Developmental Assessments and Goal Setting:
Our psychologists and therapists conduct comprehensive assessments to identify developmental concerns and work with families to establish meaningful, achievable goals that align with NDIS outcomes. - Therapeutic Interventions:
We provide age-appropriate therapy to support communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, behaviour, and school readiness. Techniques may include play-based therapy, parent coaching, and behavioural strategies. - Collaboration with Other Professionals:
Soothing Minds works collaboratively with speech pathologists, occupational therapists, educators, and other professionals involved in the child’s care to ensure consistent, coordinated support. - Capacity Building for Families:
Families are supported with practical strategies, psychoeducation, and emotional support to help them confidently manage challenges and promote their child’s development in everyday life.
At Soothing Minds, we are committed to delivering early interventions that are responsive, respectful, and empowering—helping children thrive and families feel supported every step of the way.
