Psychology

At Soothing Minds, psychologists delivering services under the NDIS provide a range of therapeutic interventions tailored to support the mental health, emotional wellbeing, and functional capacity of individuals with disability. These interventions are person-centred, evidence-based, and aligned with NDIS goals to build independence, enhance quality of life, and reduce barriers to daily living.

At Soothing Minds, psychologists provide a range of NDIS-funded services designed to support participants’ mental health, emotional wellbeing, and functional capacity across all life domains. These services are tailored to individual needs and aligned with participants’ NDIS goals.

Psychologists at Soothing Minds deliver the following NDIS services:

  • Therapeutic Counselling and Psychological Intervention:
Addressing mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, and adjustment issues using evidence-based approaches (e.g., CBT, ACT, trauma-informed therapy).
  • Functional Capacity Assessments:
Comprehensive assessments to evaluate a participant’s strengths, challenges, and support needs across communication, self-care, mobility, learning, and social interaction domains—often used to inform access to services and future NDIS plans.
  • Behavioural and Emotional Regulation Support:
Assisting individuals to develop skills in managing emotions, reducing behaviours of concern, and improving coping strategies and daily functioning.
  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Collaboration:
Working alongside PBS practitioners to provide psychological input into behaviour support planning, particularly where mental health intersects with behaviours of concern.
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing Plans:
Development of individualised, strength-based wellbeing plans that build resilience, improve self-awareness, and support recovery-oriented goals.
  • Psychoeducation and Support for Families and Carers:
Equipping families and support networks with knowledge and strategies to better understand the participant’s needs and support them more effectively.

All services are delivered with professionalism, compassion, and a focus on enhancing the participant’s autonomy, quality of life, and capacity for meaningful participation in their community.

Psychological interventions at Soothing Minds may include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): to address anxiety, depression, trauma, and unhelpful thought patterns
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): to improve emotional regulation, self-acceptance, and values-based living
  • Trauma-informed therapy: supporting individuals with a history of trauma to process experiences safely and reduce trauma-related responses
  • Behavioural interventions: to assist with emotional outbursts, self-harm, withdrawal, or other behaviours impacting daily life
  • Skill development: focusing on emotional regulation, social skills, problem-solving, and communication
  • Functional assessments and goal setting: to identify barriers and tailor supports that improve daily functioning and participation
  • Psychoeducation: for individuals, families, and support staff to increase understanding of diagnoses, triggers, and strategies

These interventions are always delivered with respect, clinical integrity, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals living with disability.
